Successful & Effective Marketing of a Small Online Business
Investing in a good keyword tool is essential for online and offline marketing. A keyword tool can be used to write copy, find niche specific competitive keywords and to plan advertising. Why you may be asking? A good keyword tool can determine what and why people are searching for in relation to your product. Word tracker is the choice of the professional marketer. What I liked about this company, is they provide a FREE keyword-guide which will alter how you market on and offline. If your budget is tight they offer membership for 1 day or 1 month. Or you can look at some of the excellent FREE TOOLS on the market.
A popular technique used by many in the affiliate marketing field is building optimized pages that refer the visitor to the main affiliate site. This technique can be applied to marketing a small business online. There are several software products on the market that will build optimized pages for your main site. Two I particularly like are Traffic Panther and Traffic Hurricane. I personally use Traffic Panther as I found the ease of setting up the software easier with them. They both offer excellent customer support, even to free users. However the Hurricane creates 1000's of optimized pages for your site whereas the Panther only creates 25 per project. Bear in mind the engines can drop your site if they think you are spamming.
Both introduce the technology of RSS, but the Traffic Panther introduces the small business to the power of marketing using Blogs. And how they can be beneficial to your business. So whether you are an attorney marketing your services, selling children’s books online or looking for the secrets of successful network marketing, these techniques can be beneficial to your business online. With these tools you can firstly learn more about your potential customers and then how to get those customers to your sites.
How to Do Successful Effective Email Marketing
As a way around this, many marketers are telling you to get a blog and an RSS feed. This makes good sense, and there is some indication that RSS and related technology will become more popular in the near future, but before you invest in an ebook or multimedia course from a marketer, ask yourself if that marketer has a vested interest in moving you over to an RSS system (i.e., they conveniently sell an RSS starter kit, or affiliate for someone who does).
On the contrary, though, email marketing is not dead. Recently, on a membership-only forum, discussion centred on how Getresponse and Aweber have improved their open and deliverability rates for emails, even as high as 85% for deliverability. One contributor, who owns an auto responder company, noted that many tricks marketers use to get their messages past spam filters (such as using "free" for "free") are actually backfiring and triggering spam filters, resulting in emails being blocked. Instead, marketers should focus on trick-free, valuable content in their emails.
Apparently, email marketing works much the same way as search engine marketing (and, really, all good marketing) does: in the long run, you are rewarded for building (and sending out) trick-free, useful, and informative content.
So how should you build your business? With one quality blog post or article at a time. And how should you market with email? With one quality email message at a time.
Necessary 6 Steps to Starting a Home Business
(If you missed the first 5 steps, you can catch up here) http://kenleonardjr.com/step1
Now that you have your online marketing system ready to go, it's time for you to learn how to bring targeted visitors to your site.
The fast way to get visitors to your site is to run targeted keyword based ads with one of the major pay per click search engines. You can open an account with Google AdWords, then learn how to use it properly. Though you can get fast traffic to your offer from a PPC campaign, you should direct traffic to your main page only for testing the offer and sales copy. The most efficient way to take advantage of PPC traffic is to send the visitors to a page that asks for contact info before they can see the advertised information. Those that don't give their email address (or more) are redirected to the sales page anyway when they close the lead capture page.
You must know what you are doing when advertising on Google, Overture and FindWhat, or you stand to lose a lot of cash very quickly. You can check out a very popular resource for learning the finer points of running ads with Google AdWords here: http://www.kljonline.com/GoogleCash.html
The online market research tool I mentioned earlier in this series would be a valuable tool for you if you decide to take advantage of Google AdWords. You can check it out here: http://marketresearch.for-your-biz.com
I mention this tool again because it comes with a very good AdWords tutorial. You could save some cash by getting the research tool with the free AdWords tutorial, then you don't have to get a copy of GoogleCash. You have to do something to educate yourself though, or you could really do some serious damage to your advertising budget.
Now for the cheap way to get traffic to your site, search engine listings. Learn how to optimize specific web pages to rank highly in Yahoo, Google and other major search engine listings. Create each page to focus on a specific keyword phrase that you found while doing online keyword research earlier in this series. But don't spend too much time on this method, since search engines are not very consistent in their listing ranking criteria.
The next method you can use for generating quality traffic to your site is to run ads in targeted email newsletters and ezines. Running ads will cost you some cash, but will really make your traffic meter go crazy. You can build your house list this way and make direct sales, too. Here is a free tutorial to help you write effective ezine ads: http://kenleonardjr.com/articles/WritingNetworkMarketingAds.html
Make sure you track every link you use in your email newsletter campaigns. Doing this will show you which ads are working and which are not. You will also find out which ezines are working, a valuable thing to know. What works for you will depend on your product and your target customer.
Writing promotional articles is a very good way to develop a long term traffic source. Write content that would be useful to your target customer, then ezine publishers and webmasters give your articles exposure to your market. This will send you high quality targeted visitors that like what you have to say. Here's another free tutorial for you, so you can learn how to write articles for web promotion that will bring you quality traffic: http://kenleonardjr.com/write
Buying banner and link space on high traffic sites that are related to yours can be a good source of targeted traffic, but be careful. You could spend a lot of cash, get a lot of traffic to your site but not get ANY sales or ANY leads! So start small and work your way up. This is a good rule to live by when learning to market online using any paid advertising.
Buying email leads is another effective way to get qualified visitors to your site, if done correctly. When purchasing email leads, make sure the lead signs up for your list specifically and that a proper record is made of the request. There are only a few reputable sources for co registration email leads, so choose carefully. Such a lead provider that is used by many professional online marketers can be found here: http://leads.for-your-biz.com
Put these methods into action and you will get targeted traffic to your web site and your offer. Some will produce short term sales while others will bring results later on. Some of these tactics will require a bit of cash while others will cost you your time. Don't make the mistake of thinking that your time is cheaper than spending cash, it is not. Treat your time as you would your money. Sometimes a small fee to get a job done is a lot cheaper than the time you would spend doing the job.
Now that you will be getting some serious traffic to your site, you will want to make sure you are using the most effective follow up series you can. Your follow up messages can make you a lot of cash if you know how to put it all together.
In Step 7 of this series, you will learn to follow up with your prospects effectively. How to deliver a powerful resource and sales message that will make buyers out of visitors that would have left your web site, Never To Return.
Strategic Internet Marketing!
Most online marketers are lost in the woods of the internet.
So if you want to get out of the woods and be an online marketer, you better start thinking strategically! That is, you need to practice strategic internet marketing techniques.
You're probably asking, what are strategic internet marketing techniques?
Let me start by telling you what it is not!
Strategic internet marketing is not buying 100,000 guaranteed hits.
It is not aimlessly placing banner ads all over the internet. It is not about using free classified ads and it is certainly not about depending on surfing for traffic sites.
Strategic internet marketing is simply about having an advertising PLAN that utilizes proven marketing tactics to get high converting results. Every promotion must have a purpose and it is critical to track the results of each and every advertisement.
Tracking is vital to finding ads that are successful and more importantly finding those that are NOT. Ads that do not perform need to be thrown out and those that do convert need to be rolled out on a larger scale.
If you are going to be serious about marketing online then you have to get serious about tracking your marketing methods. I will only say this once; if you do not track the results of your advertising methods you might as well throw your money out the window of a moving vehicle.
Now, that you know the importance of tracking your ads, let's talk about marketing techniques that work! To make a living marketing on the internet, you need to use these methods. If you don't, you will join the long list of people that say you can't make any money selling on the internet.
Below I have listed some of the marketing techniques I have used to build a profitable online business from the ground up:
Pay per Click Advertising - For the fastest and most predictable results Pay per Click can't be beat. If done properly, you can get immediate traffic that is laser targeted and high converting.
Write and Submit Articles - This is one of my favorite marketing techniques because it does two things for you. The first is that it builds credibility for you and your web site. Second, it is a tremendous way to drive tons of targeted traffic to your site for free. You don't have to be Hemingway, your articles just need to be informative and have very few grammatical errors.
Starts Your Own Engine - This is probably the most powerful marketing tactic on the web today. Having your own list of subscribers to send a newsletter to on a regular basis is powerful! I would much rather obtain a new subscriber over a single hit to my web site.
Banner Ads - Banner ads can be extremely successful and are a very cost effective way to drive traffic to your site. The most effective banner ads are text rather than graphics. Write a compelling ad that forces them to click, and this technique can provide you lots of sales.
Viral Marketing - Give something away that people can use and put links to your web site in it. Information is a powerful tool in marketing. Allow them to share it with their friends and family. Before you know, you will be getting a stampede of traffic to your site.
Linking - Reciprocal linking is critical to your online success. This is a time consuming tactic but it is well worth your time and effort. Search engines judge the importance of your web site by the number (and quality) of incoming links pointing to your site. By the way, writing articles is a great way to get high quality incoming links pointing to your site.
Engine Ads - Purchasing ads in quality Engine is like doing joint ventures without sharing the profits. You need to identify Engine in your niche that you can run promotions in. This is an excellent way to get your ads in front of thousands of potential customers at an excellent value.
Search Engine Optimization - You need to make sure that your pages are fully optimized for the search engines. The cheapest and most targeted traffic you can receive still comes from high search engine rankings! Make sure your site is optimized and anchored to certain keywords that are relevant to your site.
If you will stick with these proven marketing strategies you will get more laser targeted traffic to your site than you know what to do with. You may even have to get more server space and buy a wheel barrow to get your deposits to the bank!
So forget about the gimmick marketing tactics that are all over the internet. Stick to what works! This list is not that long and online marketing is not that complicated. To be successful you need to implement proven marketing methods and have a strategic internet marketing plan. Make sure that every ad is tracked and that it has a definite purpose in your marketing plan.
So quit wondering around aimlessly in the woods and start thinking about marketing strategically!
Advertising Your Work from Home Internet Business with PPC Search Engines.
I have been paying for traffic ever since I started my online business over 4 years ago and one of the best sources of targeted traffic is through pay per click search engines (PPC) or pay for placement search alternatives like Google adwords or Yahoo Sponsor Listings, formerly Overture.com .
Google adwords and Yahoo Sponsor Listings are the kings of pay per placement search engines. They are also the most expensive but you will get the most targeted traffic from them. If you cannot get a free listing in the top 10 on their main search results under the sponsored listings then you may want to consider pay per placement. Sponsored listings usually appear at the top above regular listings on Yahoo, and down the right side of the page at Google.
If Google and Yahoo are too rich for your liking then try some of the smaller PPC search engines like 7Search, Findwhat and or Kanoodle. I have put together a web page with links to these PPC search engines at the following web page.
CLICK HERE-----> http://bigmoolla.com/ppc.html
The key to good PPC advertising is to find cheap key words under .50 cents per click that will land you in the top 5 positions. There is no need to be number 1. A number 5 placement may cost you a few cents per click less and you will likely get the same traffic or in some cases even more than a number 1 spot. Try to pick as many key words as you can that are directly related to your product or service.
If you are advertising a work from home internet business try breaking down what I just typed. Work from home, home internet business, internet business, work from home business, home business. YOU GET THE PICTURE.
If you want to advertise a product like multivitamins try keywords like vitamins, supplements, vitamin supplements, health supplements, diet supplements, multivitamins. YOU GET THE PICTURE.
If you don’t have your own web site and only an affiliate link you may have to get a redirect URL from someone like http://tinyurl.com . Most of the PPC engines will not allow you to use an affiliate link. But you can get a tinyurl for free and have it re-direct to your affiliate link. If your affiliate program allows you to key code for testing purposes like SFI does then you can get several tinyurls and direct them to a different key code. That way you can actually test your PPC ad campaign to see which key words are working the best for you. This is important if you want to reduce your advertising dollars without sacrificing traffic to your web site. (We all want to do this right?)
PPC is only one advertising method that you should be taking advantage of, but it’s an important one so give it a try if you have not already. It may just change the way you do business and effect how much money you make with your work from home internet business.
Marketing Your Business - How Do I Adapt To the Internet?
Some of you keep hearing from other business associates that internet marketing is the greatest method of increasing business and building a foundation for customer support. The only problem is, you've just learned how to send emails to people! Never mind learning about SEO, web design strategies, content analysis, pay per click, ROI, etc!
Do you hire an SEO company or do you learn yourself?
Investing time into your company is what we business owners do best but, in many cases, when it comes to learning new methods we quickly open our wallets to anyone out there who seems like the right person to help with your situation. This is the worst possible decision you can make.
Diving into the internet marketing community with your wallet open will result in a disaster if you aren't properly trained on how to spend your money wisely. The key is not to hire an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) company to take your money and promote your business behind your back. Try finding someone who offers you their "training services" in order to train yourself or someone within your organization to learn more about what is required online, how much effort it entails, and what pitfalls to avoid.
As a business owner, if you blindly search online and pick a company, you have no idea what you could be getting yourself into. There are no secrets to promoting your business online, only a lot of hard work. That being said, anyone with a computer can easily learn how to get their company high search engine rankings. Search engines don't look to see whether or not you're running a scam. No, they are concentrated on delivering relevant results for your search terms.
Old Fashioned Marketing Tactics:
In the old days (and still practiced today), business owners would devise their own marketing plan through print media, business cards, postcards, flyers, brochures, newspapers, magazines, TV ads, and radio ads. By doing this, the company could track their results by trial and error and really find out what truly works for their industry.
Old fashioned marketing is a simple trial and error process. So is the internet. Unfortunately, all too many business owners don't have a clue how to start their own internet marketing process and they fail to even put their foot in the water. Instead, many business owners simply hire anyone they can find that seems reputable and then turn a blind eye and say; "Here's my budget, you are the professional, you tell me what to do". This is simply preposterous. You've worked so hard to get to where you are now by learning and adapting and as soon as it comes to marketing your business online, you simply shut down.
I hope that this article has awoken some of you. Don't be afraid to dive into the internet's vast realm of marketing potential. So what if you fail the first time around. When we started out, we had no idea what we were doing, 3 years later our website ranks higher than many other internet marketing companies world wide.
The ULTIMATE secret to internet marketing is simple...
A concept I call "T.I.M.E."
T - Try and try again
I - Internet changes all the time
M - Marketing opportunities are around every corner
E - Eventually you too can succeed
Think of it this way (Illustration only)
Here is a timeline of your internet marketing campaign:
Start date - Research only: June 7th, 2005
Hired a website designer - August 31st, 2005
Website Complete - October 15th, 2005
Website launch - October 20th, 2005
Started an internet marketing campaign - November 1st, 2005
Started a Pay Per Click campaign - November 10th, 2005
Made a sale - November 15th, 2005
Increased our website’s link popularity - January 1st, 2006
Website gets hit by the Google Sandbox Effect - January 20th, 2006
Increased our Pay Per Click campaign - February 5th, 2006
Made some changes to the website - February 21st, 2006
Increase the website’s link popularity - February 28th, 2006
Got listed in the Yahoo directory - March 3rd, 2006
So here you are 10 months out of the gate and your website may still be "locked in the Google sandbox" ( Search for "Google Sandbox" in Google for an explanation). Your link popularity is just starting to grow a little bit. Hopefully you haven't tried to link to everyone you can find and are actually linking to companies that are directly related to your business. Your PPC campaign is doing good. People are finally starting to come through Yahoo & MSN search results. You can sometimes find your company in the 200th spot within search results in Google and you are now wondering why this is taking so long.
Welcome to the world of marketing your company on the internet!!!
This timeline representation from above is just something to show you how "T.I.M.E." is the key of success on the internet and all we are required to do is keep plugging away and keep learning more every chance we get.
For most people who simply open up their wallets, they would have learned nothing in those 10 months and for everyone else starting an internet marketing campaign, those who didn't simply just open their wallets, their websites are probably 10 times further than yours!
In Conclusion:
Learn more about how to increase your marketing campaign on the internet. If you have to, hire someone in-house who can learn for you and give you updates on everything. If you truly need to hire an SEO company make sure it's for the right reasons like "starting and finishing a marketing campaign with you learning in the process", or "enhancing a campaign that is already in place", or "to revise your website’s conversion rate" or "create a impactful key word optimization campaign", etc. Take your time and use "T.I.M.E." to increase your business slowly but effectively on the internet.
I hope you've enjoyed this article!
How to Start an Internet Business
To start an internet business may sound simple and easy, but it's not exactly like that. It takes a lot of time and effort to succeed and get to that "flowing" mode. If you're thinking about starting an internet business, you'll have to do several things in order to lay a healthy base, which is crucial in the development process of your business.
1. Find your niche
There is a million of niches, and it's not just that simple to choose one of them. You'll have to do some analysis before you pick your niche. Basically, it's the best to choose a niche that you're interested in, so it doesn't get boring for you. Ideally, it's the best to find a niche that interests you and that is profitable. Analyze your competition and see if you'll be up to competing with them.
2. Analyze the market
It's of huge importance to analyze the market thoroughly before getting into this venture. You have to check other sites in that market, you have to check the supply and demand, you have to check what approach will work the best.
3. Great domain name
Don't settle for any domain name. Go for, if not the best, then one of the best in that niche. Ideally, you will choose a dot com, with your keyword(s) in it. Don't choose a domain name with too many dashes, because search engines don't like that. Choose a domain name that is short, brandable, easy to remember and contains your keywords.
4. Cool design
If you're not a designer, hire a designer to design your website. It's really worth it. A website with a great design will be much more pleasing for the eyes of your visitors, thus making them to remember your site and they may even come back.
5. Clean code
If you're not a coder, hire a coder to code your design. Demand valid XHTML/CSS and compatibility with all browsers. That way you'll be safe, both with your visitors and search engines.
6. Invest in content
Content is king, they say. And it's really true... The more content you have, the better your site will look in the eyes of the search engines. Add more and more content each day and you will have no worries.
7. Invest in advertising
Don't think that you don't need to spend money on advertising and link building, because you have to. You have to let everyone know that your site is alive and online, and awaiting visitors
